What is UC&C?
Digital transformation is all around us. A time that was once dominated by a specific desk, phone or computer screen has evolved. With the correct device and cloud connection, professionals have the ability to showcase their skills and seize new opportunities worldwide.
With almost half of the world embracing a remote working landscape, businesses are tasked with the challenge of serving their user that refuse to being subjected by a device or geographical location. The outcome is a plethora of communication tools reaching nearly every point of contact in the average business. So what’s the problem? Well, despite best efforts the rapid development of communication tools on offer is enough to overload any worker or IT team.
This is where Unified Communications comes in.
What is UC?
“Unified communications (UC) products — equipment, software and services — provide and combine multiple enterprise communications channels, such as voice, video, personal and team messaging, voicemail, and content sharing. This can include control, management and integration of these channels. UC products and services can also be integrated with networks and systems, IT business applications and, in some cases, consumer applications and devices.” - Gartner.
Regardless of company size, every organisation needs communication. There are a variety of communication strategies but most organization's will consist of:
- External Communication Strategy - Used to communicate with clients, customers, stakeholders and suppliers.
Internal Communication Strategy - Used to communicate with personal within your organisation. Keeps staff connected in real-time even when working remotely.
So where does collaboration come into all this?
Collaboration consists in the ‘internal communications’ strategy. Communication is about sharing knowledge while collaboration is about uniting together to reach a shared goal. For example; two employees discuss a task via VoIP, this is communication. If they were to share screens and edit documents together, this is collaboration.
Collaboration = acting on the communication.
